Old summary i english.

Welcome to Holstebrogruppen’s homepage !

We are a group of 9 Danes, who share a deep interest in blade-forgthing, knifemaking and knives in general. We have dedicated this homepage to our wonderful hobby, hoping to kindle the interest of many more knifemakers to be. As we are Danes, and our linguistic abilities are limited, almost the entire homepage is written in Danish. This page is meant to give a short summary in the English language, and hopefully give you an impression of what we have come up with so far.

We started this Internet-homepage-project because we couldn’t find any information about Danish knifemakers on the Internet, not even any information about knives in Danish. Since we started our project, a Danish maker have launched his own homepage (see our links), but we believe we are the first Danish knifemaker-group on the Internet.

In our group we have worked with several different projects during the last couple of years, an our experience is, that these projects are important to bring the group together. It also makes it possible to focus on other aspects of knives and knifemaking than we usually do. So far we have made a knife-exhibition in Holstebro Museum (see below), a knifemaker course for ourselves and this homepage, and we definitely plan to have more projects in the future !

On the FrontPage there are 16 links to different pages, and all the links are in Danish. Therefore we have made a translation of the pagetitles and a short description of the contents of each page here (see below). Please take a look !

"Hvem er vi" means "who are we ?". In this page we try to tell something about ourselves, and each member of the group has been given a page of his own. We all have put something on our pages, but the amount and type of information is different. We have some pictures of our knives, and some of us have a short story about ourselves and why we make knives. Please go and see some of what we have been doing so far.

"Mesterværker" means "masterpieces", and this is a page dedicated to some of the best Scandinavian knifemakers, in our opinion. We have a picture of a specific knife and a short description of it, followed by a description of the maker in question. All is written from a very subjective point of view , and others may disagree with us in our choices. There is no doubt though, that these knives and the makers behind them are remarkable in one way or the other. We plan to add more knives and knifemakers in the future, as we come across more masterpieces.

Take a look at the pictures, they speak for themselves !!

"Månedens kniv" means "knife of the month", and it is a knife made by one of the members of our group. Each member have the opportunity to chose a knife to be displayed on this page, and when it has been there for a month, it is moved down at the bottom of the page as a link. Every knife is followed by a description of the materials used (the type of steel used, the name of the blade-smith, the materials in the handle, the type of leather used for the sheath and so on). If the knife is made for a special purpose, this will also be mentioned. As we are 9 members in our group, we will all have the opportunity to show more than one knife a year.

"Sidste nyt" means "latest news", and this page contains information about what is going on among the knifeinterested Danes. There is a list of upcoming events, courses and shows, and we hope people will send us information if there is something we have missed. On this page we also have our log-file of changes on the entire homepage. This of course is made to make it easier to find the latest updates and ad-ons to our page. If there is some information of general interest, we will also put it on this page, which we hope to keep very much "alive".

"Knivudstilling" means "knife exhibition". In the autumn of 1996 we arranged a knife exhibition in Holstebro Museum. We had 6 exhibition cases to fill, and we wanted to show the historic development of knives. We were able to display some of the finest examples of ancient Danish knives from the stone-, bronze- and iron-age, carefully selected from the museums collection. Futhermore, a private collector lent us a very rare selection of the finest handmade and factorymade danish knives from 1700 up till today, and we were fortunate enough to be able to show some of the best masterpieces made by contemporary Scandinavian knifemakers, as we were able to borrow these from the different makers. Finally we showed different materials for knifemaking, and a selection of our own knives. All together this made up a nice knife exhibition, and on this page you can see some pictures from the different exhibition cases. We tried to get as much publicity as possible, and managed to have almost 5 minutes in the local TV, an interview on the radio, 2 newspaper articles and of course a description of the exhibition in the museums periodical. This meant a great interest, and a lot of people came to see the exhibition during the 2 months it took place. On this page you can also find a copy of the newspaper articles.

"Den bedste kniv" means "the best knife", and we hope to have a provocative page here! As mentioned earlier we are 9 members in our little group, and we probably have 9 different opinions on which knife would be the best/most suited for a specific purpose. This of course will make it quite difficult to agree on a text for this page, and therefore we plan to have several different opinions here. We will ad more text as soon as it is ready.

"Portrættet" means "the portrait".So far we have only been able to find one portrait we could use, but more will come in the future. If we can’t find any, we will try to make some ourselves, or even better, we hope to receive some from people visiting our homepage !

"Ulo" means "Ulo"!! This is the name of the special knife inuit women use every day. We have received this article from the author, Ole G. Pedersen, who is the leader of the museum in Ammassalik, Greenland. We are very happy to be able to put that kind of information on the internet, so if you have similar articles we could use, please don't hesitate to contact us.

"Våbenloven" means "the law on arm". In Denmark a knife is considered a weapon, and therefore there is a special section in the danish legislation about knives. On this page we have a copy of the section in question, so everyone can see the rules that apply in Denmark.

"Anmeldelser" means "reviews", and on this page we have made a review of a relatively new danish book on knifemaking. If possible, we will add more reviews in the future, and we invite all authors of knifebooks to send us a copy to review.

"Lav din egen kniv" means "make your own knife". We plan to have information about "how to...." on this page: small hints, new tecniques, generel describtion of methods used in knifemaking, and any other information about knifemaking. We will add more text all the time, and hopefully create a good startingpoint for beginners, as well as a source of information about new things for the more experienced knifemaker.

"Dansk Knivforening" is the name of the Danish knifemaker association. On this page we have a short description of Dansk Knivforening, and the name and adress of the contact person from our association.
If you are interested in more information about the Danish Knifemaker Association, please contact the person mentioned.

"Knivlinks" simply means links to different kniferelated homepages. We have tried to group our links in Scandinavian links, European links and American links. Among the many hundreds of American links we have chosen only a few, containing many further links.

"Send E-mail til webmaster" means "send an E-mail to the webmaster", "Gæstebogen" means "guestbook", and "UK summary" speaks for itself.

We hope this information is enough for you to enjoy our homepage, but if you have any suggestions of changes, additions, further translation into English or any other comments, please don’t hesitate to send us an E-mail. The more feedback we can get, the better our homepage will be. Thank you for your time and interest !
